U.S. stock indexes rose in volatile trading on Thursday. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.42 percent at 17,474.96, the S&P 500 was up 0.30 percent at 2,092.36 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.48 percent at 5,068.367.
** TESLA MOTORS INC, $241.07, +1.22 pct
The electric-car maker said it planned to raise about $500 million through the sale of 2.1 million shares. Chief Executive Elon Musk has indicated an interest in buying nearly 84,000 shares for about $20 million in the offering.
** CISCO SYSTEMS INC, $28.87, +3.48 pct
The network equipment maker reported higher-than-expected quarterly revenue and profit as strong demand for its products in the United States more than offset weakness elsewhere.
** KOHL'S CORP, $55.43, -9.87 pct
The department store operator reported lower-than-expected same-store sales for the second quarter as a shift in tax-free holidays to August delayed back-to-school shopping.
** COTY INC, $30.38, +5.78 pct
The company reported higher-than-expected sales for the first time in five quarters as strong demand for its Sally Hansen nail products and Rimmel cosmetics more than made up for declining sales of its perfumes.
** NEWS CORP, $14.935, +5.77 pct
News Corp's fourth-quarter profit topped estimates, helped by cost cuts at news business such as Dow Jones. The Wall Street Journal owner said it was in final phase of talks with a potential acquirer for Amplify, its digital education brand.
** HOULIHAN LOKEY INC, $22.88, +8.95 pct
Shares of the company, which advised on the Enron Corp and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc bankruptcies, rose as much as 10 percent in their market debut, valuing the boutique advisory firm at about $1.51 billion.
** ONE HORIZON GROUP INC, $1.73, +25.35 pct
The company said it won a VoIP-supply contract for a Chinese satellite operator. KeyIdea Information Technology will use One Horizon's Aishuo platform for its crew-calling services from the fourth quarter.
** PLANAR SYSTEMS INC, $6.17, +32.69 pct
The digital display maker agreed to be bought by LED display product maker Leyard Optoelectronic Co Ltd for $6.58 per share. The offer is at premium of 41.5 percent to Planar's Wednesday close.
** SOLAREDGE TECHNOLOGIES INC, $30.27, -0.10 pct
At least three brokerages raise their price targets after the company, which makes inverters for solar photovoltaic systems, beat revenue and earnings estimate for the second straight quarter since going public in March.
** BG MEDICINE INC, $0.902, -39.05 pct
The diagnostic maker offered about 2.3 million Series A units, consisting of 1 common share and one half of a warrant to purchase 1 common share, at $1 per Series A unit. The company, which is also offering Series B units, expects to receive net proceeds of about $2.1 million to support the U.S. launch of its galectin-3 test.
** GW PHARMACEUTICALS PLC, $113.28, +9.46 pct
Morgan Stanley started covering the shares of the UK-based maker of cannabis-derived drugs with an "overweight" rating and a $150 price target. GW is considered the market leader in medical cannabis applications with key value driver Epidiolex, which is being tested in rare seizure disorders.

Brokerage Cowen and Co started covering the wearable camera maker's stock with an "outperform" rating and a $76 price target. "We believe GoPro is a category creator, now expanding from a core of action cam/sports enthusiasts to a larger consumer lifestyle capture market," analysts wrote in a note
** SHAKE SHACK INC, $58.54, -9.65 pct
The hamburger chain operator said its 4-million-share offering was priced at $60 per share, well below Shake Shack's Wednesday closing price.
** CARETRUST REIT INC, $10.52, -4.80 pct
The secondary offering of 14.2 million of the company's shares was priced at $10.50 per share, below CareTrust's Wednesday closing price of $11.05.
** ELEVEN BIOTHERAPEUTICS INC, $4.74, +15.89 pct
The drug developer reported a smaller second-quarter loss, adding to investor optimism surrounding the stock after the company started dosing patients in a late-stage trial to test its drug to treat allergic conjunctivitis on Wednesday.
** LIMELIGHT NETWORKS INC, $2.63, -19.33 pct
The company is responsible for infringing rival Akamai Technologies Inc's patent for managing Web images and video, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Thursday, reviving a $45 million verdict against the company.
** OCULAR THERAPEUTIX INC, $21.5, +19.44 pct
Brokerage Morgan Stanley started covering the drug developer's stock with an "overweight" rating and a price target of $24. Investors are too skeptical about near-term data from the company's OTX-TP glaucoma trial, analysts wrote in a note. They estimated a 60 percent probability of success for the mid-stage study.
** COLUCID PHARMACEUTICALS INC, $7.46, +5.97 pct
The drug developer said it would have the cash to fund two pivotal trials of its experimental drug lasmiditan and operations through mid-2017 despite posting a bigger-than-expected quarterly loss.
** GREEN PLAINS INC, $23.56, +7.83 pct
The ethanol producer raised its quarterly dividend by 4 cents to 12 cents per share, payable on Sept. 18. Goldman Sachs raised its price target on the stock to $30 from $29 and rating to "buy" from "neutral".

The Chinese online game developer reported lower-than-expected quarterly profit, hurt by higher operating expenses mainly due to increased selling and marketing expenses for its mobile and PC-client games.
** COPA HOLDINGS SA, $64.39, -12.07 pct
The Latin American airline services provider reported lower-than-expected second-quarter profit and revenue as passenger traffic declined 1.2 percent to 1.9 million. Brokerage Credit Suisse cut its rating on the stock to "neutral" from "outperform", according to Theflyonthewall.com.
** RESOURCE AMERICA INC, $7.79, +15.75 pct
The asset manager's board authorized an additional share buyback of up to $25 million.
** FLOWERS FOODS INC, $23.53, +6.81 pct
The packaged bakery foods maker reported better-than-expected quarterly profit and revenue, driven by strong demand for its acquired Hostess bread brands and higher overall sales and pricing.
** GALECTIN THERAPEUTICS INC, $2.7, +13.45 pct
The drug developer said that the U.S. patent office agreed to grant a patent related to the use of pectin compounds in a formulation for antifibrotic therapies. The company's lead drug, codenamed GR-MD-02, is derived from pectin compound and is currently in mid-stage trials.
** PARAGON OFFSHORE PLC, $0.7019, +13.39 pct
The offshore drilling contractor's second-quarter adjusted profit of 57 cents beats analysts' average estimate of 21 cents as operating costs nearly halved. The company said it continued to reduce costs aggressively as it did not expect a "quick recovery" in its markets.
** SPRINT CORP, $4, +3.09 pct
