U.S. stock index e-mini futures fell on Tuesday as oil prices steadied but remained close to a 7-year low and weak economic data out of China reignited fear of a slowdown in the global economy: Dow Jones industrial average futures were down 0.99 percent at 17,580, S&P 500 futures were down 1.02 percent at 2,059.75 and Nasdaq 100 futures were down 1.07 percent at 4,650.5.

Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd revised its offer to buy U.S. railroad operator Norfolk, less than a week after its previous $28.4 billion proposal was rejected - and it was promptly rejected again.
** FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR INTERNATIONAL INC, Monday close $19.53, +8.76 pct premarket
The chipmaker said it received an unsolicited proposal to buy the company for about $2.46 billion. The offer is at a 11.1 percent premium to Fairchild's Monday close.
