** U.S. energy stocks down 1.34 pct, worst performer among 10 major S&P 500 sectors, as crude prices drop

** Energy stock gained for two days in a row; S&P 500 energy index closed up 2.8 pct on Tuesday, its best day in a month

** Brent down 3.4 pct and U.S. crude down 4.5 pct as oversupply fears linger and ahead of expected U.S. rate hike

** Exxon, off 1.2 pct, and Chevron, down 1.7 pct, are biggest drags on sector and among top drags on S&P 500 and Dow

** SW Energy and Devon Energy down more than 5 pct, Marathon Petroleum off 5 pct - among top losers on S&P 500 energy index

** Other decliners include: Sanchez Energy and Denbury Resources down 11 pct; Baytex Energy down 7 pct

** Laredo Petroleum Inc down 8.2 pct, Stone Energy Corp down 6 pct
