BUZZ-BlackBerry Ltd: Creates new high-growth-assets unit
** Canadian smartphone maker's US-listed shares up 1.5 pct at $9.73
** BlackBerry creates new unit to house what many consider to be among its most promising assets - cryptographic applications, its QNX embedded software and Project Ion platform for connecting devices
** "Combining all these assets into a single business unit ... will create operational synergies and new revenue streams, furthering our turnaround strategy," CEO John Chen says
** BGC analyst Colin Gillis says he does not think Chen has shepherded the assets together to prepare it for a sale
** Up to Friday's close, BlackBerry's Nasdaq-listed shares had risen more than 28 pct this year
