** ROYAL DUTCH SHELL PLC, Tuesday close $65.46, -5.56 pct premarket

** BP PLC, Tuesday close $40.25, +3.43 pct premarket

Royal Dutch Shell agreed to buy smaller rival BG Group for 47 billion pounds ($70.2 billion) in the first major energy industry merger in more than a decade, closing the gap on market leader U.S. ExxonMobil after a plunge in prices.

Shares of rival BP rose after the news.

** RITE AID CORP, Tuesday close $8.69, +0.69 pct premarket

The drugstore chain operator reported a better-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by strong prescription sales that also drove up same-store sales.   Continued...
