The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.14 percent at 17,900.17, the S&P 500 was up 0.21 percent at 2,080.69 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.70 percent at 4,944.826.

** PERRIGO CO PLC, $200, +21.43 pct

Generic drugmaker Mylan said it offered to buy Perrigo for about $29 billion in cash and stock in a move that would significantly beef up Mylan's offerings of over-the-counter consumer products.

** ROYAL DUTCH SHELL PLC, $60.6, -7.42 pct

** BP PLC, $40.89, +1.59 pct

Royal Dutch Shell agreed to buy smaller rival BG Group for 47 billion pounds ($70.2 billion) in the first major energy industry merger in more than a decade, closing the gap on market leader U.S. ExxonMobil after a plunge in prices.   Continued...
