The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.02 percent at 17,010.33, the S&P 500 was down 0.34 percent at 1,993.29 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.47 percent at 4,694.989.

The drug developer said it would discontinue a late-stage study of its brain cancer vaccine after an independent interim analysis suggested the therapy might not show a statistically significant difference in survival rates compared with chemotherapy.
** VANGUARD NATURAL RESOURCES LLC, $2.171, -16.82 pct
The oil and natural gas producer suspended distributions on its common and preferred units on Friday. FBR Capital Markets downgraded the stock to "market perform" from "outperform", saying the suspension was likely influenced by the company's upcoming borrowing base redetermination.
