TORONTO (Reuters) - Youths went on a rampage in a Montreal neighborhood late on Sunday, clashing with riot police and setting cars ablaze in retaliation for the shooting death of an 18-year-old man a day earlier.
The violence follows an incident in a park in the same neighborhood when a police officer fatally shot the teenager and two other men were wounded as officers tried to make arrests, CBC reported.
Local media reports said hundreds of officers in riot gear chased a group of youths in a culturally diverse part of north Montreal on Sunday after numerous incidents of vandalism, arson and looting.
Two officers were injured, including one who was shot in the leg, the CBC said, citing a Montreal police spokesman.
The crowd hurled bottles at firetrucks arriving on the scene to douse the fires which lit up the neighborhood into the morning, reports said.
