TORONTO (Reuters) - Bell Canada said on Tuesday it has recovered data containing records of about 3.4 million customers in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario that had been stolen from Canada’s biggest phone company.
The unit of BCE Inc said it had received information related to the theft in mid-January and an investigation with police was launched immediately.
Bell is still working to determine exactly how the theft occurred. Police have arrested a suspect and charges are pending, it said.
The recovered data includes names, addresses, telephone numbers and a list of Bell services, the company said. About 5 percent of the data included unpublished telephone numbers.
No information related to personal ID numbers, customer credit, credit card numbers, reference checks, billing or long-distance calling was involved.
