Canada sees budget surplus beating expectations

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty expects to post a budget surplus in 2008-09 of at least C$3 billion, topping the C$2.3 billion estimated earlier, he said on Tuesday.

“We’re on track for a surplus this year, something in excess of what we predicted, C$3 (billion) or C$4 billion,” Flaherty said in an interview on CTV television.

Flaherty also maintained his forecast of about 1 percent economic growth this year.
