OTTAWA (Reuters) - The government's focus on a balanced budget, lower taxes and low inflation will help protect the economy, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Friday.
He also told a news conference in Saint John, New Brunswick, that Canada's economic fundamentals are different from those in the United States.
Political rivals in the campaign for the October 14 election say Harper is far too optimistic about the prospects for the Canadian economy, given the deepening U.S. crisis.
