OTTAWA (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Thursday he did not press Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for additional troops and aid for Afghanistan but instead thanked him for the country's contributions.

"I certainly did not press the prime minister on any additional commitments beyond the ones that have already been made," Obama said at a joint news conference with Harper.

"All I did was to compliment Canada on, not only the troops that are there ... but also the fact that Canada's largest foreign aid recipient is Afghanistan," he said.
