Canada minister says no decision yet on Potash bid

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada has not yet made a decision on whether to block or approve BHP Billiton’s $39 billion bid to take over Potash Corp, Industry Minister Tony Clement said on Friday.

When asked whether the government was leaning toward blocking the Anglo-Australian miner’s bid, Clement replied: “I haven’t heard directly; I’ve just heard media reports so I don’t have any comment on that.”

In recent days, Canadian newspapers, citing unnamed sources, have published conflicting reports on whether Ottawa would block or allow BHP’s $130-a-share hostile offer for the world’s largest fertilizer supplier.

Clement also said he would not extend the November 3 deadline for a decision and that an announcement could come any time before then.
