Canada government and opposition in last-minute budget talks

OTTAWA (Reuters) - The Conservatives were holding last-minute talks with the opposition New Democratic Party on Tuesday in a bid to avoid an election, an NDP source said.

The Conservatives requested what they called an “important meeting” between top members of Parliaments on both sides, ahead of the 4 p.m. EDT delivery of the budget. The NDP, which has enough votes to keep the minority government in power, agreed.
