Manitoba-based genetics company ships pigs to Russia

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) - Manitoba-based Genesus Genetics will ship 4,100 swine to Russia, the biggest contract ever signed by a Canadian company with Russia for registered pure bred pigs, Canada’s agriculture minister said on Wednesday.

The deal is worth C$5 million ($5.2 million), Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz said in a release.

Ritz spoke at the opening of the first Canada-Russia Livestock Forum in Ottawa. Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov also attended.
