NEW YORK (Billboard) - Britney Spears is "spending her summer in the recording studio" working on a new album, according to a statement issued by her camp Wednesday.
The faded pop star is working with an unidentified "team of top-notch producers and songwriters" for the follow-up to last year's "Blackout," which has sold 879,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
No release date was indicated in the statement from Jive Records and Spears' manager, Larry Rudolph.
Spears' career has been overshadowed in recent years by her chaotic personal life -- marriages, divorces, kids and health problems. "Blackout" was billed as a comeback of sorts, but its prospects were not helped when Spears disastrously mimed her way through the first single during the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas last September.
