BERLIN (Hollywood Reporter) - Finnish Christmas film "Niko & The Way to the Stars," Ireland's "The Secret of Kells" and "Mia and the Migoo" from French director Jacques-Remy Girerd are the nominees for best animated feature film for the 2009 European Film Awards.

"Niko" tells the story of a young reindeer learning to fly who sets out on a quest to find his father, an elite member of Santa's sled pullers. "The Secret of the Kells" is set in 9th-century Ireland and follows a 12-year-old boy who discovers magic that can protect his people from barbarian raids. "Mia and the Migoo" centers on a young girl trying to find her father who meets up with a mysterious creature, the Migoo.

The five-member jury of Europe Film Academy board members selected the trio of nominees.

EFA members will vote for the winner, which will be announced at the 2009 European Film Awards, scheduled for December 12 in Bochum, Germany.
