TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - Magician Greg Frewin will star in a Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Christmas special that will climax with a stunt over Niagara Falls.
"Greg Frewin Magic Man: Home for the Holidays" will focus on Frewin as he balances family and career while running a dinner theater. The veteran Las Vegas performer will cap the hourlong show suspended upside-down in a strait jacket over Niagara Falls with "blades of fire" hurtling toward him.
"We took Greg's magic and married it with a reality/documentary style to take in Niagara Falls, which is equally spectacular," Canadian indie producer Tim Troke, CEO of Frogwater Media, said. Frogwater is putting content on YouTube to drive traffic to the December 9 television special, and ran a competition to send viewers to Niagara Falls to see Frewin's show.
In addition to "Magic Man," the CBC this week unveiled to advertisers a midseason slate led by the CBC/ABC comedy "18 to Life," about young neighbors who marry on a dare, and the father-and-son crime comedy-drama "Republic of Doyle" on Wednesday nights.
On Tuesday nights the public broadcaster is debuting "Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town," an eight-part murder mystery starring The Kids in the Hall comedy troupe.
