NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - The Country Music Association's chief executive, Tammy Genovese, has resigned, the CMA Board of Directors said on Thursday.

Genovese, a 24-year veteran of the association, said she wanted to devote more time to her two children and pursue less stressful avenues.

The CMA will hire a firm to conduct a search for her successor, Board Chairman Randy Goodman said. He paid tribute to Genovese for her work in expanding country music through festivals, shows and special events.

Genovese has been CEO since 2007.
