LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After winning an Emmy Award earlier this year for the HBO cable feature "Temple Grandin," Claire Danes is returning to cable television.
The actress has signed on for the lead role in the television pilot "Homeland" for U.S. cable network Showtime.
The script centers on an American solder taken captive during an invasion in Iraq in 2003, but returns to the U.S. after years in hiding.
Danes will play Carrie Anderson, a driven CIA officer fighting psychological demons and is convinced the intelligence that led to a soldier's recapture was a setup.
The story is loosely based on the Israeli television series "Prisoners of War" by Gideon Raff.
Danes' last series role was on "My So-Called Life," which ran from 1994 to 1995.
