TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - Canadians are to get a sneak peak at the OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network ahead of the media maven launching her network in Canada on March 1, 2011.
OWN is to launch stateside on January 1, 2011, two months ahead of the Canadian bow.
So Canadian license-holder Corus Entertainment is to air OWN programing in nested blocks through January and February on the women-targeted W Network and VIVA channels.
That sampling will include "Your OWN Show: Oprah's Search for the Next TV Star," day-and-date with the U.S. airdates for the TV competition series.
The OWN channel will then replace VIVA on March 1 to complete Winfrey's march into Canada.
Other shows to promote OWN before its Canadian launch include "Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes," "The Road to Your Own Show" and "Enough Already! With Peter Walsh."
OWN is a joint venture between Harpo, Inc. and Discovery Communications and will eventually reach into around 80 million homes in the U.S. market on a rebranded Discovery Health Channel, and another six million Canadian homes that currently receive VIVA.
