"Idol" host Ryan Seacrest preps music show for NBC
By Lacey Rose
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest is in early talks with NBC to do a music-themed show that he promises will not compete with the Fox juggernaut.
Unlike "American Idol," the new project is not a traditional competition show, nor is it clear that Seacrest would serve as host. The concept is still being fleshed out. Seacrest's "Idol" pact, worth $15 million a year, bars him from appearing on a rival broadcaster until 2012.
In recent years, Seacrest has been expanding his footprint behind the camera as a producer, with a string of shows at E! (four iterations of the Kardashian franchise, "The Dance Scene"), ABC ("Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution") and TLC (the upcoming "I Kid," hosted by Brad Garrett).
The New York Post broke the news of his latest venture.
