(Reuters) - Fantasy sports statistics: * 27.1 million Americans and 2.8 million Canadians play fantasy sports. * Total value of U.S. fantasy sports, including services, products and contest fees is $800 million. * Women make up 20 percent to 25 percent of the overall fantasy market, but men still account for 90 percent of the spending. * 75 percent play fantasy football, 40 percent fantasy baseball, 31 percent fantasy racing, 22 percent fantasy basketball, 14 percent fantasy hockey, 13 percent fantasy golf, 12 percent fantasy college football and 9 percent fantasy soccer. * Twelve percent of Americans attended a Major league Baseball game at least once a year, compared with 78 percent of fantasy sports players. The figures for a National Football League game are 9 percent and 60 percent, respectively. * 60 percent of fantasy sports players know the other participants in their leagues and live within 150 miles of each other. * Total revenue for U.S. sports websites is expected to reach $2.96 billion in 2012, up from $1.49 billion in 2007, driven by online advertising spending * The cost of buying a mid-tier paid search ad on Google for the keyword "fantasy football" in August cost $1.40 per click on average, compared with 63 cents across all keywords.
