Where are the best restrooms? Missouri and Utah
NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - An ice cream parlor in St. Louis edged past a hotel in Salt Lake City and a park in New York when it was selected as having the finest restrooms in the United States.
It was the hand-painted murals, ornate fixtures and designer mirrors that clenched the best restroom award for The Fountain on Locust, a St. Louis ice cream parlor and restaurant, in an online ballot, according to the organizers of the contest.
The Grand American Hotel in Salt Lake City, with its floor-to-ceiling commodes, marble countertops and bronze and crystal chandeliers came in second, followed by the Beaux Arts design restrooms with fresh-cut flowers in New York City's Bryant Park.
"We put a lot of thought and effort into the design and construction, and we are certain that many of our customers come back because they know our bathrooms are not just unique but also clean," Joy Grdnic Christensen, owner of the Fountain on Locust, said in a statement.
The winner of the contest was chosen in an online vote from 10 finalists that had been selected for their hygiene, style and access to the public by hygiene products and services company Cintas Corporation, which sponsored the contest.
The award assures The Fountain on Locust a place in America's Best Restroom Hall of Fame, according to the company.
The Embassy Theater in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with its Egyptian design restrooms complete with fireplaces came in fourth place, while The Muse Hotel in New York, which has individualized restrooms, each themed for a different muse, completed the top five.
