LONDON (Reuters Life!) - "Rango," the animated story of a chameleon in the Wild West, was Britain's most popular film over a quiet weekend, Screen International reported on Tuesday.

Featuring the voices of Johnny Depp and Isla Fisher, it made 1.63 million pounds ($2.64 million) on its debut.

"The Adjustment Bureau," with Matt Damon as a man trying to avoid the future fate has planned for him, came in at number two while Liam Neeson as a botanist in search of his own stolen identity in "Unknown" was new at three.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in alien sci-fi caper "Paul" were down two places at four, just above Oscar best-picture winner "The King's Speech" which clawed back a spot to five.

Last week's chart-topper "Gnomeo and Juliet" was down to six, while sci-fi romance movie "I am Number Four" slipped from three to seven.

The remake of Western classic "True Grit" halted its fall, making up a place to eighth.

"West is West" was up one at nine, with "Yogi Bear" down six places at No. 10.
