WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A fire that sent a plume of smoke over the National Mall near the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History on Monday did not cause any injuries or damage to the museum’s contents, a fire department spokesman said.
The fire started early on Monday morning in a separate building from the museum that houses heating and air conditioning equipment.
Washington, D.C. fire department spokesman Kenneth Crosswhite said the fire was extinguished and the cause was unclear. Investigators were on the scene, he said.
