The move strengthened the dollar, which weighed on oil, copper and gold prices.
Dow Jones industrial average futures were down 0.59 percent at 17,449, S&P 500 futures were down 0.52 percent at 2,088.75 and Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.19 percent at 4,557.25.
