NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX fell 92.12 points, or 0.58 percent, to 15,854.05.
Leading the index were Aphria Inc , up 6.8 percent, Hudbay Minerals Inc , up 4.5 percent, and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd , higher by 4.1 percent.
Lagging shares were Pretium Resources Inc , down 11.1 percent, Cascades Inc, down 9.3 percent, and Interfor Corp, lower by 7.5 percent.
On the TSX 76 issues rose and 165 fell as a 0.5-to-1 ratio favored decliners. There were 3 new highs and 29 new lows, with total volume of 227.5 million shares.
The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc , Aphria Inc and Manulife Financial Corp.
The TSX’s energy group fell 0.88 points, or 0.46 percent, while the financials sector slipped 1.25 points, or 0.41 percent.
West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 0.77 percent, or $0.57, to $74.86 a barrel. Brent crude rose 1.28 percent, or $1.07, to $84.98 [O/R]
The TSX is off 2.2 percent for the year.
