NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX rose 14.95 points, or 0.10 percent, to 14,924.08.
Leading the index were Crescent Point Energy Corp , up 17.4 percent, New Gold Inc , up 15.6 percent, and Shopify Inc , higher by 12.1 percent.
Lagging shares were Goldcorp Inc , down 18.4 percent, Celestica Inc, down 11.0 percent, and Detour Gold Corp, lower by 9.2 percent.
On the TSX 128 issues rose and 115 fell as a 1.1-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 2 new highs and 25 new lows, with total volume of 291.6 million shares.
The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc , Goldcorp Inc and Aphria Inc.
The TSX’s energy group rose 2.80 points, or 1.69 percent, while the financials sector climbed 1.38 points, or 0.49 percent.
West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 0.3 percent, or $0.21, to $67.03 a barrel. Brent crude rose 0.7 percent, or $0.53, to $76.7 [O/R]
The TSX is off 7.9 percent for the year.
