TSX falls 0.86 percent

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX .GSPTSE fell 122.29 points, or 0.86 percent, to 14,141.77.

Leading the index were Guyana Goldfields Inc (GUY.TO), up 18.4 percent, Iamgold Corp (IMG.TO), up 10.3 percent, and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (FVI.TO), higher by 10.2 percent.

Lagging shares were ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc (ATA.TO), down 10.9 percent, TransAlta Corp (TA.TO), down 6.1 percent, and Nuvista Energy Ltd (NVA.TO), lower by 5.9 percent.

On the TSX 82 issues rose and 158 fell as a 0.5-to-1 ratio favored decliners. There were 1 new highs and 47 new lows, with total volume of 307.9 million shares.

The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc (ACB.TO), Bombardier Inc (BBDb.TO) and Kinross Gold Corp (K.TO).

The TSX’s energy group .SPTTEN fell 2.34 points, or 1.72 percent, while the financials sector .SPTTFS slipped 1.96 points, or 0.73 percent.

West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 fell 4.19 percent, or $2.02, to $46.15 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1  fell 4.42 percent, or $2.53, to $54.71 [O/R]

The TSX is off 12.8 percent for the year.
