TSX rises 0.24 percent

NEW YORK (Reuters) - * The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX .GSPTSE rose 36.35 points, or 0.24 percent, to 14,975.53.

* Leading the index were Chorus Aviation Inc (CHR.TO), up 15.1 percent, Canopy Growth Corp (WEED.TO), up 11.2 percent, and Goldcorp Inc (G.TO), higher by 7.5 percent.

* Lagging shares were Precision Drilling Corp (PD.TO), down 5.1 percent, Stars Group Inc (TSGI.TO), down 4.9 percent, and Norbord Inc (OSB.TO), lower by 4.6 percent.

* On the TSX 104 issues rose and 131 fell as a 0.8-to-1 ratio favored decliners. There were 8 new highs and no new lows, with total volume of 228.5 million shares.

* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc (ACB.TO), Goldcorp Inc (G.TO) and Canopy Growth Corp (WEED.TO).

* The TSX’s energy group .SPTTEN rose 0.27 points, or 0.18 percent, while the financials sector .SPTTFS climbed 0.08 points, or 0.03 percent.

* West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 fell 1.8 percent, or $0.93, to $50.66 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1  fell 2.2 percent, or $1.33, to $59.15 [O/R]

* The TSX is up 4.6 percent for the year.
