The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX fell 0.97 points, or 0.01 percent, to 16,493.46.
Leading the index were Bausch Health Companies Inc, up 9.2 percent, Eldorado Gold Corp, up 5.9 percent, and Air Canada, higher by 4.9 percent.
Lagging shares were Great Canadian Gaming Corp, down 7.8 percent, Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd, down 6.4 percent, and Nexgen Energy Ltd, lower by 4.6 percent.
On the TSX 117 issues rose and 117 fell as advancing issues matched in a 1-to-1 ratio . There was 1 new high and 6 new lows, with total volume of 196.8 million shares.
The most heavily traded shares by volume were Baytex Energy Corp, Aurora Cannabis Inc and Encana Corp.
The TSX’s energy group rose 0.04 points, or 0.0 percent, while the financials sector slipped 0.21 points, or 0.1 percent.
West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 1.34 percent, or $0.82, to $62.76 a barrel. Brent crude rose 1.07 percent, or $0.77, to $71.61 [O/R]
The TSX is up 15.2 percent for the year.
