TSX rises 0.33 percent to 16,572.68

The Toronto Stock Exchange’s  S&P/TSX .GSPTSE rose 53.80 points, or 0.33 percent, to 16,572.68.

Leading the index were BRP Inc (DOO.TO), up 9.2 percent, Cronos Group Inc (CRON.TO), up 5.1 percent, and Linamar Corp (LNR.TO), higher by 3.6 percent.

Lagging shares were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc (SNC.TO), down 9.6 percent, Hexo Corp (HEXO.TO), down 4.0 percent, and OceanaGold Corp (OGC.TO), lower by 3.9 percent.

On the TSX 151 issues rose and 85 fell as a 1.8-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 16 new highs and 1 new low, with total volume of 148.4 million shares.

The most heavily traded shares by volume were Barrick Gold Corp (ABX.TO), B2gold Corp (BTO.TO) and Encana Corp (ECA.TO).

The TSX’s energy group .SPTTEN rose 0.75 points, or 0.6 percent, while the financials sector .SPTTFS climbed 1.54 points, or 0.5 percent.

West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 rose 1.12 percent, or $0.63, to $56.86 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1  rose 1.03 percent, or $0.65, to $63.91.

The TSX is up 15.7 percent for the year.
