Toronto stocks extend surge, up nearly 6 percent

TORONTO, Sept 19 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index was up more than 700 points by mid-afternoon Friday following moves by central banks and governments to restore confidence in the global financial system.

At 2:30 p.m. (1830 GMT), the S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 701.72 points, or 5.82 percent, at 12,766.29, with all of its 10 main groups comfortably higher. (Reporting by Frank Pingue; editing by Rob Wilson)
