Toronto stock turns negative as materials weigh

TORONTO, Sept 23 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index turned negative after rising more than 100 points near the open on Tuesday, pulled down by a slump in materials stocks on sagging base metals prices.

At midmorning, the S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 2.25 points at 12,635.82. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Peter Galloway)
