TORONTO, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Toronto’s main stock market index jumped more than 1 percent on Wednesday afternoon as the price of oil surged, boosting the heavily weighted energy sector.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE rose 101.09 points, or 1.14 percent, to 8,931.81. All 10 main groups of the index were higher. Oil rose more than $5 a barrel to above $44. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; Editing by Jeffrey Jones)
