TORONTO, April 16 (Reuters) - Toronto’s main stock index rose more than 1 percent on Thursday afternoon in a broad-based rally led by the financial and energy groups.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE climbed 98.70 points, or 1.07 percent, to 9,344.81.
Nine of the TSX’s 10 main sectors were higher. Only the materials group dropped steeply, falling 3.2 percent, as bullion prices pulled down shares of gold miners. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; editing by Rob Wilson)
