TORONTO, May 13 (Reuters) - Toronto’s main stock index slumped 3 percent on Wednesday with losses accelerating in the energy and financial groups as soft U.S. retail sales hurt investor sentiment.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 303.25 points, or 3.01 percent, at 9,774.45. All 10 of the index’s main sectors were lower.
The hefty materials group turned negative after limiting the TSX’s losses earlier, despite a firm tone in the price of gold. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; editing by Rob Wilson)
