TORONTO, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index surged to its highest close since July 2008 on Thursday, led by tech, materials and financial issues.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 161.06 points, or 1.18 percent, at 13,841.35. It was the highest close since July 4, 2008, when the index finished at 14,010.39.
Nine of the index's 10 main sectors rose. The consumer staples group was the exception.
