The Tampa Bay Rays placed All-Star left-hander Blake Snell on the 10-day disabled list because of shoulder fatigue prior to Monday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Snell underwent an MRI exam on Monday morning and the team said that no structural damage was found. Regardless, he was scratched from Tuesday’s start against the Yankees.
The move was retroactive to Friday, and the Rays anticipate the 25-year-old Snell will miss just one start.
Right-hander Chih-Wei Hu was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.
Snell has emerged as a standout this season with a 12-5 record, 2.27 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 119 innings. He gave up a homer to Willson Contreras of the Chicago Cubs in last Tuesday’s All-Star Game and struck out three in 1 2/3 innings.
The 24-year-old Hu is 3-6 with a 5.02 ERA in 17 appearances (14 starts) at Durham. He had a 5.87 ERA in two relief outings for the Rays earlier this season.
