Louisville running back Javian Hawkins opted out of the rest of the season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Hawkins, a redshirt sophomore, leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with 117.4 rushing yards per game this season.
He announced the decision Monday on social media.
“My experience at Louisville has been nothing short of amazing. My teammates, coaches, professors and the entire Louisville family has prepared me for my next chapter in the NFL,” Hawkins posted on Twitter. “I will forever be grateful to everyone who has contributed to my journey at Louisville.”
Hawkins, who did not play in Saturday’s 31-17 setback at Virginia, rushed 133 times for 822 yards (6.2 average) and seven touchdowns in the Cardinals’ first seven games. He caught 16 passes for 127 yards and a score.
The 5-foot-9, 196-pound Titusville, Fla., native finished seventh in the nation with a school-record 1,525 rushing yards during the 2019 season. He earned All-ACC second team honors.
