The Suns also land rookie guard De’Anthony Melton while guards Marquese Chriss and Brandon Knight are headed to Houston in the deal, which was first reported by ESPN on Thursday night.

“We are excited to welcome Ryan Anderson and De’Anthony Melton to Phoenix,” Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said in a release. “Ryan has established himself as one of the league’s best shooters and we think he’ll be a great fit in our offensive system. De’Anthony is a talented young guard who stood out for us throughout the pre-draft process and at the NBA summer league.”

The Suns are projecting Anderson, 30, to start at power forward. The 21st overall pick in the 2008 draft, he has played for four different teams, averaging 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds a game. Last season, he averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds in 66 games (50 starts) for the Rockets.

The 2012 NBA Most Improved Player Award winner has two years and $41 million left on his contract. Anderson reduced the guarantee on his 2019-20 salary from $21 million to $15.6 million to help facilitate the deal, according to ESPN.

Chriss, the No. 8 pick in the 2016 draft, averaged 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds last season, playing in 72 games (49 starts) for the Suns. The 21-year-old averaged 9.2 points and 4.2 rebounds during his rookie campaign when he played in every game and started 75 of them.

Knight, also a No. 8 overall pick, but in the 2001 draft, will be joining his fourth team. The 26-year-old missed last season because of a torn ACL. He still has two years and $30 million left on his contract and should play a backup role to All-Star Chris Paul.

For his career, Knight has averaged 15.2 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 382 games. He averaged 11.0 points and 2.4 assists in 2016-17 for the Suns.

The 20-year-old Melton, out of USC, was the 46th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
