April 29 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks to watch on Monday:


U.S. stock index futures rose on Monday, buoyed by the formation of a broad coalition government in Italy which ended two months of political uncertainty and boosted an appetite for risky assets, as investors braced for major economic news this week. S&P 500 futures were up 0.36 percent, Dow Jones industrial average futures were up 0.34 percent and Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.45 percent.

** MOODY‘S CORP, Friday close $55.12, up 5 pct premarket

** MCGRAW-HILL COS INC, Friday close $52, up 4 pct premarket

Moody’s Investors Service and Standard & Poor’s on Friday said they have settled two long-running lawsuits seeking to hold them responsible for misleading investors about the safety of risky debt vehicles that they had rated. The lawsuits had accused Moody‘s, a unit of Moody’s Corp, and S&P, a unit of McGraw-Hill Cos, of negligent misrepresentation over their activities regarding the Cheyne and Rhinebridge structured investment vehicles (SIVs).

** CONCEPTUS INC, Friday close $25.90, up 20 pct premarket

Germany’s Bayer AG has agreed to buy the U.S. contraceptive devices maker for $1.1 billion, aiming to underpin its position as the world’s largest women’s healthcare provider.

** SINA CORP, Friday close $50.3, up 18 pct premarket

The Chinese company said e-commerce company Alibaba Group has bought an 18 percent stake in its microblogging service, Weibo, for about $586 million.

** J.C. PENNEY CO INC, Friday close $17, up 4 pct premarket

The retailer said on Monday that Goldman Sachs Group Inc will provide it with a five-year, $1.75 billion financing package, the latest move by the company to shore up its finances.

** MERCK & CO INC, Friday close $47.87

** PFIZER INC, Friday close $30.09

The U.S. drugmakers said they would jointly develop Pfizer’s experimental type 2 diabetes drug, ertugliflozin, and expect late-stage trials to start later in 2013.

** NORTHERN TIER ENERGY LP, Friday close $25.44, up 3 pct premarket

The oil refiner and retailer said late on Friday that adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for January-March quarter is expected to be higher, partly because the company sold more refined products.

** ACTAVIS INC, Friday close $100.94, up 6 pct premarket

A proposed merger of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc and Actavis was put on hold after the two drugmakers failed to agree on terms of a deal that would have created a healthcare giant with a combined market value of $35 billion, a person familiar with the situation told Reuters on Saturday.

** TENET HEALTHCARE INC, Friday close $41.16, up 4.4 pct premarket

** HCA HOLDINGS INC, Friday close $38.25, up 5.3 pct premarket

** HEALTH MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATES INC, Friday close $11.20, up 5 pct premarket

The U.S. government health insurance plan for seniors proposed on Friday a 0.8 percent increase in hospital payments for fiscal 2014 - a level analysts said was within expectations.

Baird said on Monday that the payment increase was better than expected for the hospital operators industry, with Tenet and HCA being “the biggest winners.”

** GANNETT CO INC, Friday close $20.54, down 1.7 pct premarket

Barclays cut its rating on shares of the largest U.S. newspaper chain to “underweight” from “equalweight”, according to theflyonthewall.com.

** NII HOLDINGS INC, Friday close $8.83, up 6 pct premarket

Wells Fargo raised its rating on the Latin American telecom service provider’s stock to “outperform” from “market perform” as it expects the company to divest its tower assets at a higher price.

“We believe NII will divest of its 4,500 towers in Mexico and Brazil at a price higher than the Street expects,” Wells Fargo analyst Jennifer Fritzsche said in a note.

** LOEWS CORP, Friday close $44.44

The hotels, energy and financial services conglomerate reported a 34 percent fall in quarterly profit due to higher impairment charges and a sharp fall in investment income.

** CNA FINANCIAL CORP, Friday close $33.39

The unit of Loews Corp said on Monday operating income rose marginally to $231 million, or 86 cents per share, from $226 million, or 84 cents per share, a year earlier. Analysts expected CNA Financial to earn 71 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

** EATON CORP PLC, Friday close $58.65

The U.S. manufacturer reported a better-than-expected 28 percent rise in operating profit as its acquisition of Cooper Industries last year propped up sales in its electrical business.

** CLEARWIRE CORP, Friday close $3.44

** SPRINT NEXTEL CORP, Friday close $7.12

Aurelius Capital, a big shareholder in U.S. wireless service provider Clearwire, filed a lawsuit against Clearwire directors and Sprint Nextel over Sprint’s December agreement to buy out the portion of Clearwire it does not already own.

** NOVARTIS AG, Friday close $73.03

The U.S. government on Friday announced its second civil fraud lawsuit against the Swiss drugmaker in four days, accusing a unit of the company of paying multimillion-dollar kickbacks to doctors in exchange for prescribing its drugs.
