U.S. stocks were lower on Monday, but major indexes were off their lows of the day as investors once again used market weakness as a chance to add to positions. The Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.47 percent at 17,032.2 and the S&P 500 was down 0.45 percent at 1,973.92.

** AMBIT BIOSCIENCES CORP, $15.24, +85.85 pct

Japanese drugmaker Daiichi Sankyo Co Ltd has agreed to acquire U.S. biopharmaceutical company Ambit in a deal valued up to $410 million as it looks to build its presence in oncology, the companies said.


The company said its lead drug for pain management failed the main goal of a mid-stage study.


The owner of Noah’s New York Bagels chain said it would be taken private for about $374 million, or $20.25 per share, by an affiliate of Joh Benckiser, the investment vehicle of Germany’s billionaire Reimann family.

** CIVEO CORP, $13.64, -46.45 pct

The provider of oilfield accommodation services, recently spun off by Oil States International Inc, surprised Wall Street on Monday by saying it would not convert to a real estate investment trust (REIT) and would instead relocate to Canada for tax purposes.

** TIBCO SOFTWARE INC, $23.695, +21.45 pct

The business software maker said private equity firm Vista Equity Partners would take it private for $4.3 billion in the largest technology buyout this year.

** ATHLON ENERGY INC, $58.23, +24.61 pct

** ENCANA CORP, $21.61, +2.27 pct

Encana, Canada’s largest natural gas producer, said it would buy Athlon Energy for $5.93 billion in cash, excluding debt, as it accelerates its plan to focus on more-lucrative oil and natural-gas liquids (NGLs).

** DREAMWORKS ANIMATION SKG INC, $27.75, +24.11 pct

Japan’s SoftBank Corp is in talks to acquire DreamWorks, the Hollywood studio behind the “Shrek” and “Madagascar” movie hits, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

** ENDOLOGIX INC, $10.495, -20.91 pct

The medical devices maker said it expected a bigger 2014 adjusted loss due to an inventory charge related to the launch of Duraply, used to make its stents. The company also said it expected third-quarter revenue of $37 million, below the average analyst estimate of $37.6 million.

** BUILDERS FIRSTSOURCE INC, $5.519, -3.68 pct

The National Association of Realtors said on Monday its Pending Home Sales Index, based on contracts signed last month, fell 1.0 percent to 104.7. Economists polled by Reuters had expected a decline of just 0.1 percent.

** SUNEDISON INC, $19.98, +3.04 pct

The solar company says it submitted with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission plans to take its yieldco public. The company said the yieldco is focused on generating clean power assets in emerging markets, primarily in Asia (excluding Japan) and Africa

** ALIMERA SCIENCES INC, $5.362, +8.87 pct

** PSIVIDA CORP, $4.42, +3.03 pct

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the companies’ vision-loss treatment Iluvien after three rejections. PSivida said the approval entitles it to get a milestone payment of $25 million.

** EXELIXIS INC, $1.65, +5.77 pct

The cancer drug developer’s skin cancer drug cobimetinib combined with Genentech’s Zelboraf doubled the time before the disease worsened, compared to only Zelboraf. Exelixis is entitled to royalties from sales of the drug and as well as half the profits and losses.


** VALE SA, $10.97, -1.97 pct


** AMBEV SA, $6.535, -3.76 pct

** ITAÚ UNIBANCO HOLDING SA, $14.495, -6.72 pct

An election poll released on Friday showed Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff gaining on challenger Marina Silva ahead of Sunday’s election. Brazilian investors have been heavily critical of Rousseff’s government for enacting policies that have gone against minority shareholder interests in state-run companies and a tendency to enact one-off stimulus measures rather than structural reforms.

** NXT-ID INC, $2.4852, -10.28 pct

The biometric authentication company said on Friday production of some components for its Wocket smart wallet had been delayed due to vendor issues. The company said the production of other components on schedule and it was gearing up for full-scale production in early 2015.

** VIGGLE INC, $4.065, +24.31 pct

The entertainment services provider reported a 15 percent rise in quarterly revenue. The company said its net registered users jumped about 75 percent to 5.4 million at the end of the fourth quarter.

** AMAG PHARMACEUTICALS INC, $28.045, +20.99 pct

Amag said it would buy privately held women’s healthcare company Lumara Health Inc for $675 million in cash and stock, gaining access to the only approved product designed to reduce the risk of preterm birth.

** NISOURCE INC, $40.86, +5.91 pct

The energy company said it would split into publicly traded companies, separating its utilities and pipeline businesses. Under the plan, NiSource will list its natural gas pipeline division as Columbia Pipeline Group, which is expected to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker “COLP.” NiSource will remain a natural gas and electric utilities business, and its listing will not change.

** APPLE INC, $99.8849, -0.86 pct

The European Commission will publish on Tuesday its reasons for opening an in-depth inquiry into the Irish government’s tax treatment of Apple, a Commission spokesman said.

** ALIBABA GROUP HOLDING LTD, $88.8, -1.84 pct

The Chinese e-commerce heavyweight’s options contracts were active in their first day of trading on U.S. exchanges on Monday, with bullish and bearish bets about even in the early going. (Compiled by Anannya Pramanick; Edited by Maju Samuel)
