Health insurer Aetna on Friday said it would buy smaller rival Humana for about $37 billion in cash and stock, in the largest ever deal in the insurance industry.
The deal will face rigorous scrutiny from U.S. regulators, which antitrust experts said could also make other large-scale mergers in the sector more difficult.

Analysts at Sterne Agee raised their rating to “buy” from “fair value”. “Management has stopped ‘putting out fires’ and is focused on proactive changes to its network to lower unit costs and improve unit revenues in the first and fourth quarters,” analyst Michael Derchin wrote.
