BUZZ-U.S. STOCKS ON THE MOVE-Allergan, Mylan, BiolineRx, Fiat

Dow Jones industrial average futures were down 0.61 percent at 17,416, S&P 500 futures were down 0.52 percent at 2,066.75 and Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.69 percent at 4,530.5.

** ALLERGAN PLC, Friday close $308.21, +8.69 pct premarket

** MYLAN NV, Friday close $65.94, -13.18 pct premarket

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries has agreed to buy Allergan’s generic drugs business for $40.5 billion in a deal that will turn Teva into one of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies.

Teva dropped its $40 billion bid for Mylan, which hit a snag when a Dutch foundation linked to Mylan bought temporary control of half the company in an attempt to block the takeover.

The implantable heart device Bioline licensed to Bellerophon failed to prevent heart failure in patients in a large study, casting doubts over the device getting European approval.

** FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES NV, Friday close $15.15, -1.98 pct premarket

The U.S. auto safety watchdog, toughening its stance against manufacturer defects, announced on Sunday a record $105 million in fines against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV over lapses in safety recalls involving millions of vehicles.

The social networking website plans to scale up its service to offer free basic Internet on mobile phones, an executive said, after introducing the application in 17 developing countries over the past year.

** GENERAL ELECTRIC CO, Friday close $25.75, -0.85 pct premarket

General Electric wants to be a “sizable” player in the market for systems that store energy to manage power volatility, a sector the company expects to quadruple to $6 billion by 2020, the head of GE’s energy storage business told Reuters.

** MCGRAW HILL FINANCIAL INC, Friday close $105.58

The financial services company is nearing a deal to pay more than $2 billion for SNL Financial LC, a financial data and information company owned by private equity firm New Mountain Capital LLC, a person familiar with the matter said on Sunday.

** GOLDMAN SACHS GROUP INC, Friday close $207.35

Symphony Communication Services LLC, an instant messaging software company backed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc and other finiancial institutions, is seeking additional funding that could value the startup at up to $1 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

For the first time, cable TV network Nickelodeon staged a casting call at VidCon, a convention that draws stars of YouTube and social media like Vine, Instagram and Snapchat and their passionate followers.

** VERIZON COMMUNICATION INC, Friday close $46.04, -0.43 pct premarket

The broadband and telecommunications company’s wireline unit workers on the U.S. East Coast have voted to go on strike, if needed, amid contract negotiations, the unions representing them said on Saturday.


The company formed out of Burger King’s takeover of Canadian coffee and doughnut chain Tim Hortons last year reported a profit for the second quarter, compared with a loss in the first three months of the year, as same-restaurant sales rose.
