Dow Jones industrial average futures were up 0.43 percent at 16,894, S&P 500 futures were up 0.60 percent at 1,996 and Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.76 percent at 4,359.5.

** TRANSITION THERAPEUTICS INC, Wednesday close $1.93, +27.46 pct premarket

The drug developer said its experimental drug reduced severe agitation and aggression in Alzheimer's patients, citing data from a large study.

** UNITEDHEALTH GROUP INC, Wednesday close $122.07, +0.31 pct premarket

The largest U.S. health insurer reported a better-than-expected profit in the third quarter, helped by higher revenue from its Optum pharmacy management business and new enrollments.

** WAL-MART STORES INC, Wednesday close $60.03, -0.98 pct premarket

The world's biggest retailer warned on Wednesday that higher wages as well as spending on e-commerce and lower prices would cut earnings per share as much as 12 percent next fiscal year.

** VALEANT PHARMACEUTICALS INTERNATIONAL INC, Wednesday close $177.29, -10.23 pct premarket

The Canadian drugmaker said it was subpoenaed by U.S. prosecutors seeking information on its pricing decisions, drug distribution and patient assistance programs.

The video-streaming service provider reported third-quarter U.S. subscriber additions below its own forecast, blaming a transition to chip-based cards for the miss.

Drugmaker Bristol-Myers Squibb said it agreed to exclusively license and collaborate with Five Prime to develop and commercialize Five Prime's antibody program in the treatment of cancer.

The world's largest sportswear maker's revenue is set to grow faster over the next five years than it had in the previous five. Nike said it expects revenue to increase 63 percent to $50 billion by fiscal 2020, boosted by growth in its e-commerce, women's and Jordan brand businesses.

The largest for-profit U.S. hospital operator estimated third-quarter profit that fell short of analysts' expectation, hurt by higher labor costs and less favorable payer mix.

Defence equipment maker Lockheed Martin Corp's $9 billion purchase of Sikorsky Aircraft from United Technologies could close by late October or early November, well before the initial year-end target, three sources familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

Third-quarter sales at the Swiss agricultural chemicals group fell by more than expected as the weak currency in Brazil, its second-largest market, eroded the value of overseas business.

The world's biggest mining company was on course to raise $6.5 billion-equivalent on Wednesday through one of the largest hybrid bonds ever seen out of the corporate sector.

The world's No.1 oilfield services provider is expected to report a steep fall in third-quarter profit as lower oil prices weigh on global drilling activity.
