U.S. stocks rose for a fifth day during a holiday-shortened, thin trading session on Friday, as investors bid up large technology stocks which had fallen to more attractive levels recently. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.91 percent, the S&P 500 was up 0.91 percent and the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.07 percent.

** RESEARCH IN MOTION LTD, $11.70, up 14 pct (1224 ET)

National Bank analyst Kris Thompson, rated five stars by Thomson Reuters StarMine for the accuracy of his earnings estimates on RIM, raised his price target on the BlackBerry-maker’s shares to $15 as he believes there is more money to be made in the stock ahead of the early 2013 launch of the make-or-break BlackBerry 10 devices.

** GENERAL MOTORS, $25.27, up 3 pct (1031 ET)

The auto maker’s financing arm GM Financial has agreed to pay about $4.2 billion for the European and Latin American auto lending operations of Ally Financial, as it looks to extend its in-house financing to boost sales.

** KIT DIGITAL INC, $0.74, down 64 pct (1226 ET)

Former chief executive Kaleil Isaza Tuzman, who left the company earlier this year, said he would be willing to lead a private equity-backed buyout of the company, two days after the video technology provider said it would restate results.

** MAP PHARMACEUTICALS INC, $15.29, up 20 pct (0942 Et)

The drugmaker said on Wednesday that the U.S. health regulator accepted its resubmitted marketing application on inhaled migraine drug, and considered it complete. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will decide on April 15, 2013 on the marketing approval of the migraine treatment Levadex.

** MOLYCORP INC, $8.36, up 15 percent (1226 ET)

Executive Vice President John Ashburn and director Charles Henry both filed security disclosures with U.S. regulators after market close on Wednesday stating they had bought a substantial number of shares of the rare earth producer. Jon Hykawy, an analyst with Byron Capital Markets, said the insider buying certainly helps in signaling confidence in the stock.

** FACEBOOK INC, $24, down 1.4 pct (1227 ET)

The world’s largest social network company is proposing to combine user data with that of recently acquired photo-sharing service Instagram, and will loosen restrictions on emails between members of the social network.

** BAXTER INTERNATIONAL INC, $67.85, up 3 pct (1154 ET)

The manufacturer of drug infusion pumps and blood therapy products is in talks to buy Swedish medical-equipment maker Gambro for about $4 billion to boost its kidney dialysis business, The Wall Street Journal reported. (Compiled by Avik Das in Bangalore)
