The Dow Jones industrial average was up 1.16 percent at 16,244.6, the S&P 500 was up 1.02 percent at 1,933.44 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.14 percent at 4,688.788.

The medical device maker says it will buy heart device maker Valtech Cardio
Raymond James, BTIG Research cut ratings on HeartWare stock, while Sterne Agee CRT and Piper Jaffray cut price target. “We sense investors would have preferred focus on near-term results and maybe being acquired rather than starting new trials,” BTIG analysts write.

** GOPRO INC, $39.9242, -8.62 pct
Ambarella, a video processing chipmaker, forecast third quarter revenue of $90 mln-$93 mln, largely below analysts’ average estimate of $92.3 mln.
Morgan Stanley analysts expects GoPro to reduce inventory between now and year-end, and thinks Ambarella’s biggest customer in security drew down inventory in July quarter because of China uncertainties.

Canada’s Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc to commence tender offer to buy Synergetics for $6.50 per share
Synergetics shareholders to receive additional cash payments of up to $1 per share if certain sales milestones are reached.

The company says the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) intends to begin a new mid-stage trial of its universal flu vaccine, codenamed M-001, for a strain of avian flu.
Says trial, in collaboration with BiondVax, is to be conducted in the U.S. in 2015-16

The handbag and accessories maker reported better-than-expected Q2 revenue, helped by new products and marketing. Also forecasts Q3 earnings from continuing operations and revenue above analysts’ estimates.
** NAVISTAR INTERNATIONAL CORP, $16.36, -5.76 pct
Truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp said it could face enforcement from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and posted its 12th quarterly loss in a row, hurt by restructuring and product warranty costs.
** DIGITAL ALLY INC, $7.255, -7.81 pct
** TASER INTERNATIONAL INC, $23.36, +3.82 pct
Taser says the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected all 20 of Digital Ally’s patent claims. Patent relates to technology to detect when a video recorder starts recording and to communicate with any recording device in range. Digital Ally has until Oct. 17 to file response with PTO.
** ENTEROMEDICS INC, $0.3227, +18.64 pct
The medical device maker said its experimental obesity treatment reduced excess weight by 34 percent in patients in a pivotal trial and showed major improvements in obesity-related risk factors. The treatment, called vBloc Neurometabolic Therapy, blocks transmission of messages involving food intake and processing between brain and stomach using a pacemaker-like implant.
** TOWER SEMICONDUCTOR, $13, +10.45 pct
Israeli specialty chip manufacturer TowerJazz and its joint venture with Panasonic have developed radio frequency (RF) technology that can improve battery life and boost data rates in fourth generation (4G) smartphones.
** CIVEO CORP, $2.13, +14.52 pct
Sterne Agee CRT becomes second brokerage to rate the stock “buy”. Analysts believe that liquidity concerns around Civeo are overblown. “We believe the shares are worth at least $4 per share as liquidity worries dissipate,” they wrote in a note.
** KRATOS DEFENCE AND SECURITY SOLUTIONS INC, $4.51, +1.35 pct
The defense and security equipment maker said its subsidiary Micro Systems Inc has been awarded a $3.8 mln contract from Raytheon Missile Systems to provide radar tracking transponders for the AMRAAM missile.
** WIX.COM LTD, $19.96, +5.61 pct
Deutsche Bank raised its rating on the website builder’s stock to “buy,” according to Theflyonethewall.com.
With the upgrade, all 10 brokerages now covering the stock rate it “buy” or higher, according to Thomson Reuters data.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Tesaro Inc’s treatment for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in adults, the company said on Wednesday.
