BUZZ-U.S. STOCKS ON THE MOVE-Gold and silver miners, Arrowhead

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.03 percent at 16,335.71, the S&P 500 was down 0.16 percent at 1,949.07 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.11 percent at 4,790.781.

** CHEROKEE INC, $15.02, -37.70 pct

** TARGET CORP, $77.48, +0.53 pct

Apparel retailer Cherokee said Target elected not to renew the license of the Cherokee brand in the United States.

** ZUMIEZ INC, $14.88, -31.30 pct

The sports apparel and accessories maker forecasts Q3 sales and profit below analysts’ estimates. The company says response to merchandise offering fell short of expectations in Q2, requiring company to become more promotional than planned to clear slow-moving inventory ahead of the back-to-school selling season.

** ENERGY FOCUS INC, $16.85, -26.74 pct

The LED lighting product maker says underwritten follow-on offering of shares by the company and certain stockholders was priced at $17.00 per share, a discount of 26.1 pct to Thursday’s close of $23.00.

** AVON PRODUCTS INC, $3.415, -16.71 pct

Avon, which sells cosmetics door-to-door, is in talks with private equity firms about an investment through a stake sale in the struggling company, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

** MARVELL TECHNOLOGY GROUP LTD, $8.72, -17.35 pct

Marvell says conducting investigation into recognition of certain revenues in Q2. The company cites softening demand for certain products, particularly for HDD storage products due to slowing demand for PCs.

** FINISAR CORP, $12.185, -18.28 pct

The network equipment maker forecasts Q2 profit and revenue below analysts’ expectations late on Thursday.

** U.S. SILICA HOLDINGS INC, $17.79, -6.49 pct

Jefferies & Co cuts rating on the commercial silica maker’s stock to “underperform”, PT to $14. “We see significant risk related to pricing nearer term ... we (also) assume no pricing recovery in 2016,” analysts write in note.

** MATTRESS FIRM HOLDING CORP, $47.3, -21.61 pct

The mattress and bedding retailer’s Q2 adjusted earnings of $0.67 per share is below analysts’ estimates of $0.72, hurt by a 55 pct jump in operating expenses.

** CONTINENTAL BUILDING PRODUCTS INC, $20.42, -4.49 pct

PE firm Lone Star Funds sells 4 million shares to sole underwriter Credit Suisse. Continental Building to buy $20 million of stock in a private transaction from Lone Star equal to the price paid by the underwriter.

** ACETO CORP, $26.43, +19.43 pct

The drug developer’s Q4 net sales rise 5 percent to $146.6 million. Adjusted net earnings 48 cents per share vs 26 cents a year earlier.

** ARROWHEAD RESEARCH CORP, $6.37, +11.36 pct

The drug developer says experimental drug ARC-HIF2 was found to be promising in preclinical study for treating a type of kidney cancer.
